“I love walks in solitude around Totnau. As part of an aristocratic lineage I value privacy.”

“I long ago realized that what we refer to as News is a cognitive and relational toxin, so I began to pay very close attention to its origins and… particularly… its actual purposes. This practice has proven medicinal for me, and I encourage you to… before you become entranced by the »content, examine the »purposes for which it was created, and who benefits (and how) when it is circulated. This practice will almost always prove enlightening, educational, and prophylactic… in that it will inure you to the toxicity while delivering actual insight and understanding about the bizarre forces that stand in the place of true society, education, information… as well as revealing our peculiar vulnerability to ‘substitution’ cons.”

“I kept searching everywhere for the train station, never realizing that… long ago, I had, myself… become the train. And everyone was inside me… traveling… to all their myriad destinations… on routes mysterious and beautiful.”

“I just want to be clear that if you had to depend upon people as malignantly stupid and disoriented as those who currently ‘rule’ our nation, for things you depend on every day… your can openers would be made of paper towels and your telephone would only connect you to a random septic tank somewhere in rural Indiana.
Your keys would only ‘unlock’ doors that aren’t connected to anything…in junkyards. Your cups wouldn’t have bottoms, or handles. Your car could only go sideways, and would flip over every time you tried to drive it… and your sunglasses would ram knives into your eyes when you put them on.
If you think we can survive ‘leaders’ who cannot put sentences together, and are unqualified to understand basic things like weight or danger, you’re in for the rudest series of deadly awakenings you were never terrified enough to imagine. And, just to be clear, this isn’t new… it’s been going on for decades… what’s new are the forms and consequences of lethally misguided megalomaniacal political idiocy.
If ‘we’ don’t form a an actual society and reforge our government in an intelligent, modern and reliable form… there isn’t going to be a we anymore. Or a nation. Or anything resembling a survivable society.”

“I have to say that I live in a country where, never one time in my life… ever, even once… did I go to the grocery store… and there find any shelf bare. Never.
It sounds ridiculous, but I wasn’t prepared for that. The first time I saw that, some part of me recoiled in terror. It was totally unprecedented.
If only that wasn’t the physical analogy of something that happened inside me many months earlier. The place inside me where I go to obtain the necessities that bring my soul to life. One morning it was empty.
You can talk to people about the grocery store and they will understand. But inside yourself? No one understands that. I mean, there wasn’t a virus in there, or some kind of quarantine… was there?
It’s just a mystery. And it makes what happened at the grocery store seem almost inconsequential in comparison.
Because, you know, without the light inside there’s nothing outside that matters.
It’s just empty darkness in a variety of designer hues…”

“I have observed some of the adults forming phrases and words that are specific to their local pods… neologisms and colloquialisms that have peculiar local meaning in their momentarily preferred characterizations and subjects… much as they did, in peculiar fashion, during adolescence… or even childhood…”

“I have never lived in a world more strange, mysteriously inscrutable, and highly charged with the potential for catastrophe. But the idea of apocalypse, as in ‘the end of the world’ seems somehow far too simplistic for what I am actually experiencing…”
