“All day long, every day, the vast majority of us »synchronize with machines. WiFi signals. Traffic. Computers. Assembly lines. Cameras. LED Lights. Smartphones. To call this ‘a terrible idea’ is a malign understatement…

We must aid each other in remembering something crucial, while we can still remember anything.

Something evicts dreaming from our waking experience during our development. The imperatives and aspects of human cognition that are responsible for that eviction will not be satisfied with removing the dreaming aspect from our waking-world experience. Unimpeded, they will go after our dreaming experience in sleep as well.

And this dreaming experience during sleep comprises the vital organs not merely of intelligence, but memory itself. Every night we resynchronize with each other during sleep. The whole structured nightmare of machine-synchronization largely (but not completely) disappears into a fluid, communal form. The Water of Life and Memory. The dimensionality of our experience of »identity is radically and creatively expanded. The nature of our own identity and role… undergoes a similar expansion.

Our physical organs regenerate. Our memories are consolidated and relinked. So many crucial aspects of our human origins, natures and potentials are refreshed, restored and rejuvenated.

Anything that attacks dreaming will, in a very brief time, result in a catastrophic inability to detect such a process, because it will eviscerate the foundations of the faculties required for such inquiries, sensings, intuitions and analyses.

What attacks our dreaming, assaults the foundations of Memory. And if you cannot remember… there’s no way to sustain meaningful comparisons of the kinds likely to alert us to the onset of a broad-scale cognitive apocalypse for modern humans…”

“The question remains, and is, for me, utterly compelling. Whether or not the concentrated intent, attention, concern and awareness of large or local groups of human beings, can ‘affect’ actual situations. I recall hearing something about prayer studies being proven to have no (or even negative) affect on health outcomes… but the question remains open in my mind, whether if you get 100 people focused upon the same truly important situation… or 1000 or 10,000, for say, 30 minutes a day over the span of a few weeks… whether or not they could directly affect situations. Consider the incredible power that any given LLM has to devote some subset of its processing assets to a specific task over time.

The humans are attempting to invent mechanical gods, and, it appears, they will succeed — even if a large part of their ‘success’ is little more the blurring a variety of categorical definitions; intelligence, sentience, divinity, awareness, etc.

It is obvious that human intention, when scaled up and enacted, dramatically alters futures… and even has the capacity to, around here, end them.

But what could we do if we were able to table consistent, intelligent focus over large populations in a synchronized way?

∞ Do not merely stand at the font of human knowledge and receive. Stand and remake. Do not be made, in your minds, in the images of pundits, your forebears, or experts. Climb atop them with the ladders they assembled, and admit no structure which will not immediately provide its full momentum to your intelligence, even at the cost of its survival as such. Pass beyond the gates, befriend all guards, surpass all histories.

∞ Note: there is a phase in adolescence (each person’s timeline is unique) where the Threat Sentinel aspect of awareness begins to undergo the process of transforming to include complex externalities, including ‘the world’.

No one is capable of bringing even modest communal threats into their personal psyche early in their development. Our cultures and media are ceaselessly pumping this process; constantly emphasizing the ‘necessity’ of seeing all the problems and threats in the worldwide context, which is not only absurd; it’s lethal.

Bear in mind that for nearly all of human history, threat concerns were local to cohorts. It was impossible to even conceive of threats to the entire world. Our minds and psyches are evolved for close and communal relationships and situations, not terrifying abstractions of worldwide threat and disaster.

The failure to negotiate this process well results in a plethora of largely catastrophic syndromes, symptoms, disorders and panic. If we could become aware of this situation, and track it to some degree, we would be able to mediate the often terrible outcomes that happen when it goes undetected, unmediated, and… occurs in a invisible ladder of ever-more damaging developments within us.

In this walk and talk, I explore the complexity of organisms (as opposed to machines) and give some of my nascent excitement about Assembly Theory as proposed and popularized by Lee Cronin and Sarah Walker (et al).

Assembly theory’s publication occurred in Nature on October 4, 2023. It may represent one of the most staggering discoveries in science… or it may represent a bold overstatement of its own scope and novelty in science (see refutation in youtube description).

It proposes a way to empirically »measure selection and evolution, as well as giving us ways to quantify, measure and understand what appears to be an innate feature of »any object we can detect. It may represent »a new method for empirically understanding features of identity which, while previously proposed, existed outside our capacity to examine or prove.

I encourage interested listeners to listen to Cronin himself as he talks about the history and peculiarly fraught path to publication in Nature…
